OpenAI ‘Will Be a Public Company in 2027’ or Sooner, CFO Friar Tells Employees

OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar told employees at an all hands meeting that the company will be a public company in 2027, or sooner if the business keeps inflecting.
Friar cited a 35 percent jump in this quarter’s revenue run rate, enterprise revenue run rate up 50 percent, and its AI coding product reaching 20 million weekly active users.
She framed the timeline as OpenAI running its own race rather than reacting to rival Anthropic, after OpenAI posted $6.7 billion in second quarter revenue, up 18 percent.

Amazon to Expand Drone Deliveries to Suburban Chicago, Atlanta

Amazon plans to expand its Prime Air drone delivery service to nearly 500 US towns and cities by the end of 2026, a sixfold increase from where it stands today.
New markets include the Chicago and Atlanta metro areas, with Syracuse, Cleveland and Boise coming soon, adding to the 10 metro areas Amazon currently serves from 11 sites, each covering about 175 square miles.
The drones carry items weighing 5 pounds or less, deliver most orders within 60 minutes, and are free for Prime members on orders over $50, with a $3 fee for smaller orders and $5 for non-members.

Google Launches Gemini Student Hub With AI Study Tools

Google launched a new Student Hub inside Gemini, giving college students a free year of AI Pro along with AI generated flashcards, adaptive practice quizzes and study notebooks that can read graphs and images.
The hub adds calendar integration that pulls test dates out of a syllabus and syncs them straight to Google Calendar, and brings Deep Research to Gemini Live so students can request research reports by voice from their phones.
The launch lands squarely in back to school season and positions Google against study apps like Quizlet and Notion, leaning on its existing ties to Gmail, Drive and Calendar.

Stripe Agrees to Acquire AI Model Marketplace OpenRouter for $7.5 Billion

Stripe agreed to acquire AI model marketplace OpenRouter for about $7.5 billion, with $1.5 billion going to the startup’s founders and $6 billion to its investors.
OpenRouter gives customers a single gateway to more than 400 AI models across providers, letting them switch models for cost or performance without getting locked into one vendor, serving roughly 8 million users globally.
OpenRouter’s CEO has described the company as the equivalent of Stripe for AI, and the startup had raised $113 million in a Series B round in May 2026 at a $1.3 billion valuation from backers including Sequoia and Andreessen Horowitz.

Slack Code Puts AI Coding Agents in Dedicated Project Channels

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff launched Slack Code, turning Slack into a coordination layer where engineering teams can assign work to coding agents from Anthropic, GitHub, Cognition and Vercel without leaving a shared channel.
The four partner integrations went live on August 20, building on each company’s earlier standalone Slack integrations, including GitHub’s Copilot agent and Anthropic’s Claude tag.
Benioff called the approach multiplayer coding, and the move shifts Salesforce from being just another model provider to positioning Slack as the coordinator that centralizes multiple competing coding agents in one interface.
