After 43 years of dinner, theater and countless laughs, the Newport Playhouse & Cabaret Restaurant is preparing to take its final bow.
President Jonathan Perry announced Wednesday that the longtime Newport institution will permanently close on Dec. 31, 2026, bringing an end to a run that began in August 1983.
But Perry made clear: the show isn’t over yet.
The Playhouse will continue performances through the end of the year, giving generations of fans several more months to return to what Perry affectionately called “The Little Theater That Could.”
“We still have several months of performances ahead of us, audiences to entertain, stories to tell and laughter to fill this building,” Perry said.
Perry was just 18 when the Playhouse opened, thinking the small theater might be a hobby until he figured out what he wanted to do with his life.
