For two weekends this fall, some of Newport’s grandest addresses are opening their doors to their neighbors — free of charge.

The Preservation Society of Newport County will offer free admission to Newport County residents Sept. 12-13 and Nov. 14-15, giving locals a chance to wander through the Gilded Age estates that have made Newport famous around the world.

The offer is open to residents of Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Jamestown, Tiverton and Little Compton, as well as Naval Station Newport personnel and their immediate families and Salve Regina University students. ID or proof of residency is required.

On Sept. 12-13, visitors can explore The Breakers, Marble House, Rosecliff, Chateau-sur-Mer and Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth.

The weekend also includes admission to Rosecliff’s “Revolution Reimagined: Evolving Stories from Newport’s Past,” an exhibition offering a fresh look at the people and events that shaped Newport’s history.

The encore arrives Nov. 14-15, when The Breakers and Marble House will again welcome eligible visitors free of charge.
