NEWPORT, R.I. — Helena Foulkes has opened up a commanding lead over Gov. Dan McKee in Rhode Island’s Democratic gubernatorial primary, according to a new Salve Regina University Pell Center poll.
Foulkes leads the incumbent governor 48% to 28% among likely Democratic primary voters — a 20-point advantage with just weeks to go before the primary.
But the race isn’t locked up: 22% remain undecided.
Foulkes is particularly strong among voters under 50, taking 58%, as well as college-educated voters at 54%. She also dominates in the Bristol/Newport region, where she receives 58% support.
The lieutenant governor’s race is far murkier.
