Good morning. In today’s edition:

  • Zuckerberg tells investors Meta is building 24/7 personal AI agents to compete with Google and OpenAI

  • Google Cloud launches seven-day agent runtime with enterprise identity and governance controls

  • ChipAgents raises $134M as autonomous agents automate chip design at 120+ semiconductor companies

Mark Zuckerberg used Meta’s Q2 2026 earnings call on Wednesday to announce a “big push” into personal AI agents. “Soon we will have agents that can work 24/7 on your behalf to help you achieve your goals and improve your life, your health, your relationships, your finances, whatever you want,” Zuckerberg told investors. He called personal agents “the foundation for our next wave of products and revenue lines.”

The announcement puts Meta in direct competition with Google’s Gemini Spark, which already handles multi-step tasks across Gmail, Drive, and Calendar, and with OpenAI, whose president Greg Brockman confirmed this week that the company is building multiple consumer devices for its AI chatbots.

Zuckerberg acknowledged a structural disadvantage: unlike Google or Microsoft, Meta doesn’t control email, documents, or financial data. His counter is scale. Instagram has more than 2 billion daily active users, over 1 million businesses use Meta’s agents weekly on WhatsApp and Messenger, and the company’s smart glasses provide a hardware surface no competitor has matched.

Meta expects to spend $130 to $145 billion in capital expenditures in 2026, including a joint venture with BlackRock for a 1-gigawatt data center campus in El Paso. The spending comes as Wall Street grows openly nervous about AI infrastructure costs after Google raised its 2026 capex forecast to $205 billion.

Databricks co-founder Arsalan Tavakoli will lead a session on what enterprise AI security requires when agents make autonomous decisions inside sensitive systems.

  • Samaya AI published FrontierFinance, an open benchmark measuring agent performance across real investment workflows. The benchmark uses 11,543 expert-crafted rubrics across 220 queries. Samaya’s system scored 56% accuracy, ahead of Claude Fable 5 at 49.2% and GPT-5.6 Sol at 46.8%.

1. Google Cloud launched seven features that treat autonomous agents as enterprise workloads. Agent Runtime allows agents to run continuously for up to seven days. Agent Identity introduces a native IAM type with least-privilege permissions specifically for agents. AT&T is using the memory feature for sales agents. Best Buy and Commerzbank are deploying identity and governance controls.

We published a full analysis of Meta’s personal agent strategy and the competitive map it enters. Google has the deepest ecosystem integration. OpenAI has the strongest models. Meta has 2 billion daily users and no productivity suite.

The piece examines whether Meta’s social graph and smart glasses can substitute for the email-and-documents stack that makes Google and Microsoft agents immediately useful, and whether Zuckerberg’s $145 billion bet is a genuine strategic insight or an expensive rationalization for arriving late.
