A recent Canadian news story pointed to something many families are feeling: retirement is becoming less affordable for more older adults, and optimism about aging is dropping. That financial pressure changes decisions - when to retire, how to spend, whether to travel, even whether to ask for help.
At the same time, there’s a second piece that deserves equal planning: your physical capacity. Research summaries (including a recent article from Western University) keep reinforcing that physical activity is one of the most reliable tools we have to support healthier aging.
Here’s a simple way to think about it:
Wealth planning helps you protect choices.
Health planning helps you use those choices.
This week, pick one action from each column:
Body/brain
Do 2 sessions of 2 strength exercises: 10 squats and 10 wall push ups
Practice balance on purpose, e.g. standing on 1 foot for 30 seconds (supported if needed)
Choose one “brain-friendly” movement habit you can repeat, like practicing gratitude in the morning
Finances
List 3 questions you want answered (estate basics, taxes, income planning)
Book one appointment / gather one document / write one checklist
Small, consistent steps matter.
