NeoFinder Support • Re: Did I catalogue incorrectly?

Hello, yes, for such huge volumes we very much recommend to catalog the top level folders separately, as outlined in the NeoFinder Users Guide: https://www.cdfinder.de/guide/11/11.1/f ... oging.html Also, if that disk contain a Time Machine backup, you MUST use very specific settings: https://www.cdfinder.de/guide/3/3.12/ti ... disks.html LAst, what size did you ask NeoFinder for photo and video…

NeoFinder Support • Did I catalogue incorrectly?

Recently I attached a 4TB drive to my NAS and had Neofinder catalogue it. It took nearly 7 days to do this. The final file is a huge 165+GB. Did I do something wrong, should I have created a catalogue for each top level folder? (For what it's worth I create a folder a year and subsequent subfolders for media or hardware type.) The drive's details are Size 4.0TB Free Space 717.7 GB Files 1,532,176…

NeoFinder News • BUG! Cataloging ExFAT volumes can fail

While testing NeoFinder 9.3dev in macOS 27 betas, we discovered a bug in macOS regarding ExFAT volumes. We had already reported seven years ago that the ExFAT driver shows ompletely bogus date values for the volume creation and modification date, as you can see here: No, that disk was NOT formatted and last modifed in 1970, of course. Unfortunately, even in the latest macOS 27 "Golden Gate" beta,…

We have downloaded and installed the third beta of Apples new operating system, and we are currently testing NeoFinder! As always, we will of course provide you with a version of NeoFinder that will work fine in macOS 27 "Golden Gate", once that has been released and is stable enough for daily use. Due to some very serious data loss bugs in the APFS driver in the early betas from Apple, at this…

NeoFinder Support • Helpful tools: WhatCable.app

Have you ever considered that an external disk feeling very slow may be caused by a bad, cheap, or just faulty cable? What's more, the USB standard is highly complex, there are many cable types with different certified speeds and abilities, unfortunately. When you catalog large disks with NeoFinder on macOS, any kind of hardware problem will definitely show up, as NeoFinder will read the disk…

NeoFinder iOS 3.1 can now use Color Labels from NeoFinder macOS! You can use these to mark interesting files, folders, and even catalogs, to aid your workflows. https://www.cdfinder.de/guide/4/4.8/color_labels.html It takes one extra step to transfer the names and color definitions from your NeoFinder macOS to iOS, but it definitely is worth it!
