Within each of us is that whole Being we call life, Spirit, Consciousness. Whether or not we are aware of this vastness, this totality of Being, we’re always automatically demonstrating everything of which we are aware — all that we are believing and thinking about.

In other words, our Consciousness, our awareness, our inner power, is creative. It’s unfortunate that so many of us say that we believe in this power, and yet act as though we don’t. If we truly believe in an Infinite Power, then we understand that it lives within our own Self, filled with Infinite Intelligence, creating according to our words, thoughts and beliefs. This means the answer to any question we could ever ask is always within.

Today I want to follow this understanding along three lines: decision-making, financial prosperity, and our attitudes. Though these appear to be quite separate territories of experience, they’re all governed by the very same Law — the Law of Mind. Whatever we give our belief to, whatever we hand our power over to, becomes the very pattern our life takes. This is not philosophy for its own sake; it’s the mechanics of a well-lived life.

Decision-making 🤔

When we ask someone else what we should do, when we pose that familiar question — ‘What do you think I should do?’ — we’re giving our power away. We’re asking someone else to make our decisions for us and, in effect, we’re declaring that we don’t believe in the Power and Intelligence flowing through us, as us. When we truly do believe in it, we honour and acknowledge the Self that we are.

Too many of us erase our own Self by handing our authority to others. When we become dependent upon other people, we literally erase our own Self and become incapable of deciding anything, and so we fail to move into action. The only way to take charge of our life is to think for ourselves, make our own decisions, and act upon them.

We build these barriers ourselves, every time we demean our own Self — every time we Self-erase. We reinforce them with our need to be liked and accepted. We’re liked by others when we agree with them, when we do what they want, when we ask them to decide for us. But this steals our own power, and causes us to abandon what is always our responsibility: thinking for ourselves and making our own decisions. Those trapped in this kind of dependency rarely consult themselves about how they feel or what they truly need — they’re too occupied depending upon someone else.

We all have the capacity to make decisions. Perhaps as children we were taught to let parents, siblings or friends decide for us and, as adults, we go looking for replacements wherever we can find them. To live in health and to succeed, we must learn to depend upon our own Self, not upon someone else.

If health, freedom, prosperity and happiness are to be ours, we must assume leadership of our own life, remembering that within our own Self is a Power that can do anything when allowed to live through us. When we believe in ourself, we make our own decisions and live with their consequences. If a decision brings pain, we simply make another, having learned what we needed to learn.

Seeking expert advice is not the same thing as blind obedience. We may listen to a lawyer or a doctor, but in doing so we are only gathering information — the decision always remains our own. Dependency breeds illness, unhappiness and frustration. We need to clear the decks, take up self-responsibility, and make our own decisions by believing in our own inner Self.

Our attitudes and thought patterns 💭

Our habitual thoughts settle into definite patterns, and these patterns create repeating experiences. This always becomes visible because that is simply how Mind works. These thought patterns become our attitudes and our attitudes are apparent to everyone around us. Our attitudes literally determine our every experience and shape the whole of our life. Because our attitudes are created out of thought, we always have the power to change any attitude that is not serving us well. We can choose the attitude of a winner — one that opens every door and prepares the way for nothing but success, wealth, health and love.

Negative attitudes manifest as poor conditions and must be avoided at all cost. People do not warm to someone who is sullen, resentful, depressed or unfriendly — and it’s not only people who respond this way, but circumstances and things respond in kind. Our attitudes become visible in our homes, in what we wear, in everything about our life. What we are speaks so loudly that it’s what others notice and absorb, far more than anything we might say, creating an atmosphere that makes people and circumstances either comfortable or uncomfortable in our presence.

Financial prosperity 💶 / 💷 / 💴

Money responds remarkably to our attitudes. Please read those six words again.

When our Consciousness is one of love and abundance, money flows readily into our experience. Money can’t think yet it remains a form of energy responding to — or repelled by — our attitude. Money is simply a medium of exchange for Consciousness, and therefore it’s deeply receptive to a positive attitude. When we respect the money that comes to us, keep it in good order, and bless it, money multiplies generously in our experience.

As we bless the money that comes to us, that blessing enters the Law of Mind and touches, in a positive way, the Consciousness of everyone who has been an avenue for bringing that money to us. Never complain about how little money we might seem to have. As we bless everything we already have, the Law of Increase moves into action. Similarly, we must learn to bless the money that leaves us whenever we give it, spend it or invest it because we’re actually sending out an attitude that draws back to us the good already irresistibly drawn into our life.

How could paper possibly be evil? It is simply an expression of whatever attitude is using it. Prosperity is an attitude in action, one that each of us can — and must — cultivate for ourself. Each one of us has every right to be rich, and to have our financial, emotional and creative needs fully met.

Our good can only reach us when we hold an attitude of love, abundance, success and joy. Just as people are repelled by negativity, so too are circumstances and opportunities. Let’s throw open the doors to our own good by remembering that our attitude is always showing, and let’s make certain that we radiate the very highest and best state of mind at all times.

Decision-making, attitude, and prosperity are, in the end, three names for the same practice: noticing what we’re believing, and choosing it on purpose. Whatever we give our power to grows. Let’s give it, always, to the Truth of who we are.

Some exercises for reflection 🧠 + 💪

On decision-making:

• Recall the last three times you were asked, or asked yourself, ‘What should I do?’ In each case, did you consult your own Selffirst, or did you reach immediately for someone else’s opinion?

• Notice where in your life you routinely hand your decisions to another person — a partner, a parent, a friend, a colleague. Name that area honestly.

• Choose one small decision today that you would normally defer to someone else, and make it yourself. Notice how it feels to stand behind your own choice.

• Ask yourself: ‘What would change in my life if I trusted my own inner Self as much as I trust other people’s opinions?’

Affirmative statement: I trust the Intelligence within me. I think for myself, decide for myself, and act with confidence, knowing that my own Self is equal to every choice before me.

On attitudes and thought patterns:

• Spend one day simply observing your own attitude, without judgement, the way you might watch weather pass. What is the prevailing pattern — hopeful, anxious, resentful, content?

• List three thought patterns you notice repeating in your week. For each, ask: has this pattern served me, or has it limited me?

• Choose one recurring negative thought and write, beside it, the attitude of a winner you would rather hold instead. Practise voicing the new thought each time the old one arises.

• Consider how your home, your appearance, and your daily manner might be quietly broadcasting an attitude you no longer wish to keep. What small, tangible change could begin to shift it?

Affirmative statement: ‘My attitude is my own to choose. I release every pattern that no longer serves me, and I claim, here and now, the attitude of confidence, warmth and success’.

On financial prosperity:

• Write down, honestly, your present attitude toward money. Do your words, thoughts and actions draw money toward you, or push it away?

• Recall the last time you complained about money, however briefly. Rewrite that complaint as a blessing instead.

• Look at how you currently keep your money — your accounts, your wallet, your paperwork. Does their state reflect respect and order, or neglect? Choose one small, practical improvement to make this week.

• The next time you spend or give money, pause and consciously bless it as it leaves your hands, trusting the Law of Increase to bring good back to you.

Affirmative statement: ‘Money is energy, and I bless it as it comes and as it goes. I respect what I have, I am grateful for what flows to me, and I open myself, without limit, to my own true prosperity’.

In gratitude.

Neil
