NDP Leader Avi Lewis issued the following statement:
OTTAWA - With federal byelections called for August 31 in three ridings across Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, Canada's New Democrats are announcing two experienced candidates ready to campaign and a competitive nomination process underway in the third riding.
With a potential strike among WestJet cabin crew workers looming, the NDP is urging the Liberal government to respect workers' collective bargaining rights and to refrain from intervening if a strike ensues. While negotiations are ongoing, a strike could occur as early as August 2nd.
