Linda Naylor · POLITY | a voice for action

POLITY - a voice for action understands and respects the value of your time.

Like you, my Inbox is full of valuable information from authors who are writing to educate, protect and defend us.

None of us has the time we’d like to devote to reading the work of every great author. We can, though, stay abreast of key actions we can use to protect ourselves and those who are important in our lives.

Please think of POLITY - a voice for action as your tool to the most impactful information of the moment.

Please support this work.

POLITY - a voice for action is written as a service to you: to educate, to inspire, to assure you that we have a path to recovery and to wholeness.

If this work matters to you, please consider supporting it. You can upgrade to a paid subscription or send a one-time donation via Ko-fi. Your support helps me to keep doing the work that matters to us both.

Thank you.

The deliberate harm that is being thrust upon us by the authoritarians is an assault on our safety, our well-being, our work, our relationships. It's intended to disorient us, to disempower us, to create stasis - that sense of slowing that leads to immobility.

Some days I lose focus; I feel overwhelmed by the tasks of the day. Even the supportive structure I've laid out for my own productivity feels oppressive. Anxiety and disorientation can arrive when the challenge of acting on what I value seems impossible.

Paul Shattuck, in Progressive Strategy Now, identifies the harm that is being inflicted upon us. Paul takes the additional step of identifying a second weight we're feeling that centers around an ideal of resistance. It's constant, relentlessly urgent, as we self-impose what he calls "public facing bravery."

We're trying to preserve our humanity "inside a system we depend on that is being ransacked and torn apart."

Paul Shattuck has created what he calls "Tiny Moves for Strategic Agility, Integrity and Survival." These are doable actions intended to help us interrupt a downward spiral or a blockage to "regain a sense of direction and stay connected to what matters."

He names 80 Tiny Moves. These are intended to meet us where we are. No pressure. No performance. No forced responsibility. Here are the first ten:

  1. Name what still matters. Speak it out loud or write it down.

  2. Take a no-scroll hour. Just be where you are.

  3. Text someone: “Thinking of you. No pressure.” Start small.

  4. Make a “don’t adapt to this” list. Keep it visible.

  5. Cancel one non-essential task. Let the gap be restorative.

  6. Start a shared doc called “What We Still Believe.” Invite a few trusted people.

  7. Buy a banned book. Read it. Lend it. Talk about it.

  8. Choose one task that aligns with your values. Do that first.

  9. Unfollow one source that fuels distortion. Even if it’s “on your side.”

  10. Say, “I’m not sure yet.” Let it be a position, not a weakness.

Paul says, "This work is about more than survival. It's about building the moral and emotional infrastructure to stay human together for the long haul.

"With each act of discernment, connection, repair, and refusal, we're shaping the future. Step by step, we're moving toward something more rooted, more humane. Maybe even something that feels like a home and not just a refuge from harm — a foundation for belonging, care, and repair."

Please consider reading through and subscribing to Progressive Strategy Now. Paul's is among the voices we need to hear to maintain our equilibrium, our sense of partnership and trust in one another, and a big-brotherly reminder of our humanity.

Newsweek: "50501 is again calling for protests in all 50 states against the Trump administration on April 19.”

In social media posts, the group stated that they want 3.5 percent of the U.S. population—more than 11 million people—to participate. They cite this figure as the threshold for "sustained resistance in order to make a difference."

50501 said the April 19 demonstration will be to protest against what they describe as a "hostile government takeover" overseen by the Trump administration.

Follow protest scheduling on Mobilze.us, Indivisible.org or via Newsweek's coverage.

Let's make the April 19 national protest a resounding success. Please schedule to attend a protest and bring every available friend or family member. The energy in defending what we love and build together is exhilarating!

This is our country, and we'll defend, protect and reclaim it - together.

Paul Shattuck: "The path forward may not be marked, but we are not lost."
