From the rocky harbors of New England to the redwood forests of California, from desert canyons in the Southwest to coral reefs in the Pacific, we work to protect the lands, waters, wildlife, and communities that define America.

Welcome to Field Notes! We are a group of Democrats in Congress who serve on the House Natural Resources Committee. Our jurisdiction is as wide as the nation itself. Our job is to look after the places people depend on: national parks and forests, rivers and coasts, and the wildlife that make them whole. We stand with Tribal communities defending tribal sovereignty and cultural heritage. We fight for every American worker, family, and small business whose lives rely on the outdoors.

Our public lands and waters belong to everyone. They are places of work and wonder. They fuel local economies, keep our air and water clean, and offer moments of peace that cut through daily noise. They are also at risk—from increasingly devastating climate disasters to policies that for decades have put polluter profits over the public good.

We want Field Notes to be a gathering space. A place where you can follow what’s happening in Congress, see how Democrats are working to care for our shared lands and waters and keep polluters accountable, connect those decisions to your community, and find ways to take part. Everything here is free to read and share, because the responsibility of protecting these places belongs to all of us.

Whether you’ve spent a lifetime hiking trails and fishing rivers or you simply pause to admire a view from the side of the road, you’re part of this story. These lands and waters are yours—not a private playground of billionaires and polluters, not some ‘balance sheet’ for oil and gas companies.
