The first year with Detroit College Promise back under the stewardship of PathologyOutlines.com was a wonderful one. We’re excited to announce 66 Scholars for the Class of 2026, each of whom will receive a $500 scholarship for two years (click the link to read their essays). We recently had the honor of celebrating with some of them at a joyful, energetic reception, where we recognized the Scholars alongside several distinguished guests: Detroit City Councilmember Mary Waters, State Representative Joe Tate, DCP Board Member Pamela Moore, and DCP Founder and Executive Director Dr. Nat Pernick.
Councilmember Waters opened the reception with inspiring remarks on the strength of DPSCD (Detroit Public Schools Community District) schools and the value of a college education, encouraging the Scholars to pursue their studies and one day return home to Detroit. Board Member Pamela Moore, a Detroit Public Schools graduate herself, spoke about her own college journey and urged the Scholars to "handle your business" by not taking the easy route when roadblocks arise.
Dr. Nat Pernick, DCP's Founder and Executive Director, shared that he started the nonprofit in 2008 to give back for the outstanding education his parents, Larry and Anne Pernick, received at Longfellow, Durfee, and Central High School. He believes in making the world a better place through service to your community and beyond. Dr. Pernick congratulated the Scholars and encouraged them to find ways to help others, including through civic involvement.
