The kitchen is the nucleus of my home. Everything revolves in lazy circles around the kitchen. So it pains me to admit that for months, I have had no inspiration while standing by the stove.
I still cooked - but it was nothing new. I was clinging to my routines. My mind has been flapping around inside me like a wounded bird and wounded birds cannot teach themselves anything.
I began my slow lurch back to a more normal state of mind last month, when I stayed in Park and Summit counties, and discovered the McCullough Gulch, which is like something out of Lord of the Rings.
I then managed to scramble up a local mountain - not Pike’s Peak, the great 14-er standing over the city, churning out storms and mystic visions - just a regular mountain, with lots of loose shale under my boots and tight switchbacks under the trees and great views at the top. Next month, before it gets too cold, I’m dragging my family to hike to some alpine lakes.
When I’m not trudging stubbornly upward, I am attacking my cardio and lifting goals, trying to stay in a calorie deficit, and reading paper books in bed, i.e. doing things that make me saner. It’s working. Slowly, but it’s working.
Which is all to say that I have a new recipe for you. The Glorious Normie Restoration cannot win if we don’t do the things we love, and experimenting with new recipes and sharing them is a major avenue of love for me.
