The Vice Mayor has articulated the issues surrounding a critical issue facing the City – the recent passage of HB 4005 by the House and Senate. What is remaining is the Governor’s signature or veto, but if left unsigned, the Bill (also) becomes law.
The Bill removes the authority of the Naples City Council to appoint Commissioners, under their lease, on their land, to the Naples Airport Authority Board, who manage the Naples Municipal Airport.
The Bill replaces that authority with a County-wide election.

The Airport has leased, from the City, one square mile or 8% of City-owned land with a value of as much as $1Billion dollars since 1969.
The City manages the lease, and the Airport is subject to all City land codes and ordinances.
Allowing the County and special interests to influence the management of our City’s largest asset is a politically motivated State over-reach without justification, and could likely have far-reaching consequences to be covered in an upcoming Volume of Naples Watch.

The City meets tomorrow, Wednesday, March 18th. The issue is on the agenda, which will likely be heard in the afternoon.
