I don’t know about you all but I keep thinking about the fall season…I just love autumn!
Especially when it comes to outfits and getting dressed - I think the layers you get to wear during the chillier months make outfits more interesting.
But of course…it is not fall (yet) as it is the middle of August and the temperatures are currently in the high 80°F in NYC (I don’t think we are going to be wearing heavy coats anytime soon…) Also, it stays hot in the city until mid or late September. So even when you are truly out of the summer mindset in mid-September it still might not be chilly enough to wear all the cozy layers.
Instead of looking ahead to September and chillier temperatures, I decided to take a moment to think about my closet and the items I have been getting a lot of wear of over the summer that I am excited to keep wearing in September and beyond.
And so - I give you seven items (many of which I own in multiple colorways) I wear often and wholehearted recommend adding to your closet if you are on the hunt for something new that you can wear now and down the road.

P.S. If you are ready to think more about fall shopping - I am saving all my favorite fall fashion finds HERE.
Cashmere Riley Cardigan from Tuckernuck - $188
This is a great classic cashmere cardigan that comes in more than ten different colors. I seem to wear at least one (if not both) of these cardigans at least once a week.
Sizing: I size up in this cardigan as I find it to run small, I buy a XXL vs my usual XL size.
Woven Ballet Flats from Margaux - $325
You all know that I am such a fan of Margaux shoes (I wear them constantly) but in these warmer months I find I reach for these woven leather styles the most. The brown woven colorway feels especially chic for the fall season!
Sizing: I follow Margaux’s size charts when I order and shop based on what they suggest for my US size. I am a US 12 so they usually recommend a 43M in their shoes. I do think these woven styles stretch a bit more than their classic leather flats, so for that you could size down a 1/2 size.

Cropped Rowan Quilted Jacket from Hill House - $248
This is one of those easy lightweight quilted jackets that you can wear from summer into fall. The other week I wore it while flying up to Maine and it was the perfect airport layer that kept me warm in the blasting flight AC. (And I loved the two big front pockets for holding my phone.)
Sizing: I sized up to a XXL vs my true XL in this. I probably didn’t need to size up but I typically prefer a coat to be a touch oversized.
*This is another very cute patterned quilted jacket that I don’t own but am tempted to order!
RSVP Midi Tank Dress from SoldoutNYC - $295
I suspect these easy tank dresses will be the pieces I reach for when it is September and still so much hotter than I want it to be….As they seem to be the dresses I wear as of late anytime it is over 80 degrees.
Sizing: this brand runs big, so I size down and get the Large vs my usual XL. These dresses have no zippers, you just pull them over your head.
I can wear my favorite everyday no-underwire bra with these dresses (thank you to the thick dress straps) or sometimes I just wear my favorite sticky boobs.
Cashmere Crewneck Sweater from COS - $279
If you have followed me for a while you know I SWEAR by this sweater!
From all the countless sweaters I have tried over the years this one always wins when you consider the quality and the price. It is not the cheapest or the fanciest but right in the middle price wise but feels comparable (and lasts just as well) as many of the fancier sweaters I have bought.
I own these in multiple colors and think I might need to order the brown colorway they currently have because I don’t own that color (yet) and they typically sell out of this style by early-mid fall.
Sizing: these run big so I order down one size and buy size Large (vs my typical XL.)
Traversee Tote Back in Tweed Nuit from Rue de Verneuil - $478
I have loved using this tote over the past month or two (it is a great easy size that fits a lot (laptop included) but does not feel too big!) but it is made out of a chic navy tweed fabric that just screams FALL. So while I am already using and enjoying this bag I think I will love it even more as the temperature dips.
I love that it has a removable longer strap to wear the bag over your shoulder or crossbody.

Ischia Dress from Doen - $348
I almost did not include this dress as I worry that I mention it too often here on my substack…but trust me…it is just that good and versatile. I own the popular Doen dress in two colorways, black and a navy polkadot.
Sizing: I buy my true size in this (XL) but if between sizes you could size down as it has smocking and adjustable ties. There is no zipper, you just put it on over your head and adjust the ties as needed.
The dress is a bit sheer so I like to wear this slip skirt and this strapless bra with it.
