I’ve been doing author events for several years now, and I’ve learned a lot just from trial and error. I’ve done indoor events and outdoor events. I’ve had mostly good experiences, but I’ve had some bad ones, too! You can probably relate!

So I’ve created a couple of lists.

Things NOT to do at an outdoor sales event:

  • Don’t fill your candy dish with chocolates if you’re doing a summer event. (If you thought this was a no-brainer, I agree, but I learned the hard way!) Stick to something that won’t melt.

  • Don’t underestimate the wind factor. Even a small gust can carry your tent away like a scene from “Tornado”! Stake it AND weight it.

  • Don’t depend on your technology to work perfectly. Have a backup plan for cash with plenty of change!

Here are some things to remember to take for your outdoor events:

  • Stake pounder (to make sure everything is secure)

  • Water and snacks. You might not be able to leave your tent!

  • Plastic bags for your trash. Makes cleanup easy.

  • And the last but NOT least? BUG SPRAY!!

There are 31 items on my Sales Event Checklist that you can print and use for multiple events —it’s all included in the Author Essential Toolkit!

You can get it here at: Author Essential Toolkit
