If you are an author (or aspiring to be one), read this.....

Do you know where you are going as an author? Or maybe the better question is, do you know where you WANT to go as an author?

• Best seller list?

• Fame and fortune?

• Representation by an agent?

• Finish a book for family and friends?

I confess I wasn’t sure what my goals were when I started writing, except for one.

I wanted to see if I could do it.

And maybe that is where you are right now, too. But probably sooner rather than later, you need to have a sit-down with yourself and ask some serious questions.

I guarantee it—you won’t regret it!

But what questions should you ask to gain some clarity about what your goals are as a writer?

• First question: “What are my short-term and long-term writing goals?” If you don’t have an answer right away, that’s OK. Ponder it for a bit. Envision where you want to be first. Then you can determine the steps to take to achieve this goal.

• Second question: “Am I setting business goals for my author career, not just creative ones?” This isn’t the first thought on a writer’s mind. But the minute you hit publish, or send your work out into the world, or put a price on it, you ARE running a business.

• Third question—and—this one’s important—are your goals aligned with your personal life and values? What kind of life balance are you looking for as an author?

When you reflect on these questions and act on them, you’ll find that you’re not just busy—you’re purposeful.
