For a long time, I thought the answer to growing my business was finding the right strategy.

Maybe you’ve felt that too. You buy the course. You sit through the workshop. You implement the system exactly as instructed — and for a little while, you feel hopeful. This is the thing that’s finally going to work.

Then somehow, it doesn’t.

Not the way it worked for the person who taught it to you. Maybe it works for a while, and then it feels like dragging a stone uphill just to keep yourself going. And you start asking the question I think every woman I’ve ever coached has asked herself at some point. Why does this work for someone else and not for me? What’s wrong with me?

I spent years assuming the strategy was broken, or that I was.

It took me a long time to consider a third option. The strategy wasn’t designed for me. That day, everything changed.

A tool for understanding, not improvement

When I found Human Design about ten years ago, I wasn’t looking for a business tool. I was trying to understand myself. What I found was language — language for why certain things energized me while others drained me, language for why some opportunities felt right no matter how good the numbers looked, and others felt wrong no matter how good they looked on paper.

I’ve used every major personal development tool on the market over thirty years of working with business owners. DISC. Myers-Briggs. StrengthsFinder. I’m a certified Myers-Briggs administrator — I’ve run it a thousand times, and I still think it’s a great tool. But almost all of them focus on improvement. Be more disciplined. More confident. More consistent. More visible. More of something you’re not.

Human Design asks a different question. What if you don’t need to become more? What if you need to understand yourself more deeply? What if the things you’ve been trying to fix were never flaws — they were clues?

Sameness gets sold to us as safety

Here’s the thing underneath all of it. We’ve been trained — in business, and honestly everywhere else — to value conformity. Sound like the expert teaching you. Follow the proven funnel. Market like the people who are already succeeding.

But nobody hires you because you sound like every other coach in your niche. They hire you for the thing you bring that’s different — the way you see a problem, the language you reach for, the experience underneath your perspective. Your business is an extension of you. It’s shaped by how you make decisions, how you communicate, how you lead, how you trust yourself or don’t.

When you don’t understand yourself, your business reflects that confusion. When you do, it reflects that clarity.

Your differences are not the obstacle to building a successful business. They are the business.

What changed when I stopped borrowing someone else’s blueprint

I ran a successful brick-and-mortar business for a decade — multi-seven figures, fifty employees — and I still couldn’t get my online business off the ground, because I was running it the way the books told me to. The funnels, the team structure, the decision-making process — all borrowed from someone whose energy had nothing to do with mine.

Human Design showed me how I’m actually built to operate. When I’m meant to act, and when I’m meant to wait. How I make a decision, and how to trust it instead of second-guessing myself for a week. I stopped structuring my business around someone else’s energy and started structuring it around mine. The decisions that used to drain me — what to say yes to, who to bring on, when to launch — got so much simpler. Not because I got better at deciding. Because I finally understood how I was wired to decide.

The good news: you don’t have to start over

If everything I just said has you thinking you need to redo everything you’ve built — you don’t.

Most of us, when something isn’t working, assume the whole thing is broken and throw it out. New niche, new offer, new identity. But most of the time, the foundation isn’t the problem. The alignment is.

Think about a plane. One degree off course over a short distance, and you’ll never notice — it’s easy to correct. Over time, that one degree puts you somewhere completely different. Businesses work the same way. A small misalignment compounds. So do small corrections.

You don’t need to reinvent yourself. You need to trust yourself more. Clarity in your message. A slight refinement in how you show up. Offers realigned with how you’re actually built to work. That’s not starting over.

That’s coming home to yourself. And it is the right strategy for the new era. Things are changing and even the guru’s no longer have all the answers. But what you do have is you, your energy and your way of doing things. That is not going to change. That is what becomes your differentiator. That is what will help you stand out in the marketplace. That is what will help you thrive.

If you want to go deeper into what your own design says about how you’re built to structure your offers, market with words that are actually yours, and sell in a way that doesn’t drain you — that’s exactly what I teach inside my paid membership here on Substack. One insight applied to your business tends to pay for the year many times over.
