Long, long ago in days of old

The goddess, the goddess, the goddess ruled

She was the earth. Her gift was birth

They loved her, they honored life and renewal

Eons passed, men with swords came, it didn’t last

The goddess, the goddess, the goddess banished

Ambition was naked. Nothing real was sacred

Not childbirth, not nature, just relics and gibberish

I hear her voice calling, it’s breathing, it’s calling

I hear her voice calling to me:

Take care of me

I’ve been here for billions of years

And birthed countless creatures before

I’ll go on but miss you if you’re gone

For I’ll have no mind anymore

Take care of me

You gave me my mind, and I thank your kind

It’s why I can’t silence my cry

Doors now are closing and you haven’t chosen

Whether to die or to try

Take care of me

With soft breezes blowing and wildflowers growing

A jewel of the cosmos was here

Now hurricanes blowing and wildfires growing

For I am no longer revered

Take care of me

Long, long ago no one could know

But you do, look in you, what do you revere?

I’ve been here for billions of years

And birthed countless creatures before

It could be you that makes the breakthrough

Your time could be legend and lore

If you take care of me

The cosmos is calling, it’s calling, it’s calling

The cosmos is calling to me:

‘Matter to me’

I hear its voice calling, it’s breathing, it’s calling

The cosmos is calling to me

‘Matter to me

Matter to me’ ”
