Have you seen Nameberry’s shiny new outfit?
We’ve got a new look, but the real news is what’s inside. Under the pretty wrapping, we reinvented baby names yet again.
Not with another chatbot. We couldn’t fight AI with AI. Our secret weapon is that we know we’re smarter about baby names. We invented the modern culture of baby naming with our first books, then we reinvented it for the web with Nameberry. And now, in the era of AI, we needed to do something different from what we or any other baby naming site had ever done, but also different from AI.
Our guiding principle for every new tool we built: Was it something AI couldn’t do, not now, not ever? Sure, chat with Claude. But when you get serious about making a decision that’s going to last a lifetime, come to us.
We invented a tool that predicts every name’s probable popularity curve from now until 2040, for instance. Looks like Olivia is starting a long downward slide.
See those little plus signs next to every name?
Every time you encounter a name anywhere on the site, touch that plus sign to make it yours. You can put the name on your favorites or dislike lists of course, but you can also add them to any list you make.
Here are some of my lists:
Here’s the full list of Names I Love But Won’t Be Using. Send us yours!
If you press that sunrise-colored Recommend More Names button, you get related name ideas you can then add to the list.
Creating targeted lists and then using those to generate more name ideas puts you in control of your baby name journey, as you navigate from one name list to the next, collecting new ideas and refining your choices as you go.
Only subscribers and longtime active members of our community, dubbed the Elderberries, have posting privileges on the forums now, so subscribe to get all the excellent advice offered by our warm knowledgeable community. If you believe you’re a rightful Elderberry and I left you off by accident, email me at pam@nameberry.com.
A Nameberry subscription also lets you talk to the app, porting over your favorites and matches with all your name partners. So if you want a name swiping and sorting function, you can add the Nameberry app to your suite of tools for $5 forever and use it in partnership with your Nameberry.com subscription.
We created a couple of fantastic games for the subscriber site, Namecandy, an addictive match-three game like Candycrush, and Name of the Day, a daily name-guessing challenge something like Wordle, see below. I’m still practicing.
The newsletters will remain as normal for the next month, but we’re transitioning to a free/paid model, with the free edition available to everyone and an extended edition, with exclusive analysis and data, for subscribers only.
We’ll be rolling out additional innovative features in the weeks and months ahead, so we hope you’ll check out the new Nameberry, less than $5 for the first three months.
Subscribe now. And oh, we forgot to say: It’s all ad-free.
