Part 1: Your Psyche is Leaking (And why your brain is actually a bag)

Here’s the deal: according to Anzieu, your intellect isn’t some floating cloud of logic. It’s the surface of your body. A baby doesn’t learn the world through syllogisms; they learn it through the mother’s touch. Your “Self” is essentially a psychic envelope—a bag.

If this bag is leaky, your psyche “pours out.” If it’s too rigid, you suffocate in your own armor.

The three jobs of your psychic container:

1. Support (Soutien): Like muscles on a skeleton. Without it, you feel the “unthinkable anxiety” of falling into an abyss (hello, panic attacks).

2. Containment (Contenance): Keeping your feelings inside so they don’t spill all over the place.

3. Protection (Par-excitation): A filter. It needs to be thick enough to block stress but porous enough to let in love and data.

I’m diving into this for my new multimedia project because we’ve forgotten how to “breathe” through our psychic skin. We’ve traded biological boundaries for digital ones.
