It’s safe to say 2026 hasn’t quite gone to plan.
I’ve been moving through it a little on autopilot, doing all the things I thought I should be doing, ticking boxes, staying busy. And yet, something felt slightly off. A bit disconnected. Like I wasn’t fully in my own life.
Not unhappy, exactly. Just… not quite myself. Hello, perimenopause.
So instead of trying to overhaul everything, I started something small. A quiet little experiment: a series I’m calling How to Romanticise the Everyday. Not because life isn’t already good enough, but because it’s so easy to forget how much beauty exists in the ordinary when you’re rushing through it.
This is my way of slowing down. Of noticing. Of making space for moments that feel soft, playful, a little bit magical.
I thought I’d start with a list, some of my favourite small, whimsical ways to bring a bit more romance into the everyday:
25 Ways to Romanticise the Everyday
Dinner by candlelight, even if it’s just pasta on a Tuesday
Putting on your favourite dress just to go and buy flowers
Watching the sunrise or sunset.
Playing music while you cook and pretending you’re in a film
Re-reading a favourite book you already know you love
Writing in a journal at a café like you’re the main character
Walking a longer route home just to notice new streets
Making your morning coffee feel like a ritual, not a rush
Watching your favourite comfort film again, no matter how many times you’ve seen it
Sitting by a window when it rains and doing absolutely nothing
Sending a thoughtful message to someone just because you thought of them
Cooking a meal from scratch and setting the table nicely for yourself
Doing your skincare slowly, like a ritual instead of a routine
Drinking your tea or coffee outside, even if it’s a bit chilly
Making a playlist that feels like the current chapter of your life
Making your bed feel like a little sanctuary, even if the rest of the house is a ‘mess’
Create a “soundtrack” for your day and play it as you go about things
Drinking your tea or coffee outside, even if it’s a bit chilly
Take your camera on a colour walk.
None of these things are big or life-changing on their own. But that’s kind of the point. It’s not about reinventing your life, it’s about seeing it differently.
Sometimes it’s just about paying attention. Slowing down enough to notice the way light falls across your kitchen counter, the comfort of your favourite jumper, the quiet satisfaction of doing something just for you.
Because when you start looking for the glimmers, they’re everywhere.
And maybe nothing around you has to change, just the way you move through it.
Happy Sunday,
Zoë xo
