Aravind Hari Nair · The Musings of a Lotus

Hello there!

I’m back! It’s been a while since I wrote anything. But, I needed a hiatus as more important things got in the way. However, I am going to pick this up and keep writing more. At the very least, I’ll drop into your inboxes every other week.

I think I should start by addressing the elephant in the room - where did I disappear to? Well, with exams, projects and other deadlines looming over me, I decided to prioritise getting stuff sorted and graduating early, which kept me occupied for the remainder of 2022. And then welcomed the new year with a trip to the Bay Area with Daphne and Abhijeet, which was an absolute blast!

Back in Arizona, I went out to see the wildflower super bloom, caused by the heavy rains. Didn’t have to go too far out of the way to see it since it was everywhere! But even if I had to go far, it would have been worth it. Not just to see the flowers, but a long drive to relax and unwind from the stress of daily life. Add a good book and a cup of coffee to the end of that drive and it’s perfect!

Speaking of books, I’ve been reading more! Well, more than before at least. During the blackout phase (as I’ve decided to call the last 6 months), I’ve finished a few books, mainly Words of Radiance (Book #2 in Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archives series), and Austin Kleon’s Steal Like an Artist and Keep Going. And right now I’m going through Breath by James Nestor which takes a deeper look into how we breathe. I know the topic seems like a simple enough thing - I mean, we breathe every day and it takes no conscious effort on our part. But breathing and this history of it has a lot of interesting facts. For example, did you know that our breathing process actually underwent a radical resizing change and our nasal cavities becoming smaller is what’s causing us to have breathing problems? Well, I definitely didn’t. Although to be honest, I’m reading it mainly to figure out how to breathe better so that I don’t wake up as often with a stuffy nose. I definitely need proper sleep!

Well, I guess that’s all there is for this time. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you all in the next issues!

Cheers!

P.S To my fellow sci-fi enthusiasts, May the Fourth be with you!
