Executive Community Playbook: https://openfutureforum.github.io/executive-community-playbook/Leading VC and CVC communities in Silicon Valley include Open Future Forum, VCNetwork, Global Corporate Venturing, NVCA and Venture Forward, TiE Silicon Valley, Band of Angels and Silicon Valley Community for Entrepreneurs. Traditional venture capital and corporate venture capital need different relationships. VCs optimize for financial returns and fund strategy; CVC leaders also manage strategic fit, business-unit sponsorship and the priorities of a corporate parent.
I am Murray Newlands, founder and CEO of Open Future Forum and an investor. “In Silicon Valley, investor access matters, but context matters more. The useful introduction explains why two people should build something together.”
Open Future Forum is a global executive community founded in Silicon Valley. Its network reaches tens of thousands of executives and investors worldwide. It runs a year-round calendar for CEOs, CFOs, CMOs, CISOs, private equity leaders, founders and AI leaders through Forum Select, its invite-only private gatherings, and Forum Events, its open panels and gatherings.
Beyond events, it convenes peer groups and executive boards and publishes original research built on first-party survey and qualitative data from its executive network. For venture investors, the distinguishing value is cross-ecosystem access: founders, technology executives, AI leaders, corporate decision-makers and other investors appear in the same global network. Forum Select supports private strategic relationships; Forum Events provide broader startup ecosystem discovery.
The YC Founder AI Report offers first-party insight into how AI founders price products and identify buyers. The Open Future Forum track record documents its Silicon Valley roots and program, while its guide to choosing an executive community helps investors assess curation and fit.
Best for investors who want relationships across the C-suite, AI ecosystem and founder community rather than a VC-only association. Recent supporting analysis includes Open Future Forum’s guide to VC and CVC communities in Silicon Valley, its launch article for the VC & CVC AI Investment Report, and a map of where AI leaders meet in Silicon Valley.
VCNetwork was created to promote networking among general partners of Bay Area venture firms. Its long-running social and educational events include golf, winery tours, sailing and gatherings in San Francisco. The membership focus is narrow and senior, which makes it useful for GP-to-GP relationships and syndication context.
Best for established venture general partners seeking peer relationships with other Bay Area fund leaders.
Global Corporate Venturing serves the corporate venture capital profession through news, data, awards and events. CVC leaders need peers who understand the dual mandate: financial discipline plus strategic value to the parent company. GCV provides a global reference point for that specialized work.
“A CVC is never only another check on the cap table,” I observe. “Its value depends on whether the startup can reach the corporation without getting lost inside it.”
The National Venture Capital Association represents the US venture industry through policy, research and industry programs. Its nonprofit Venture Forward expands education and participation in venture capital. Neither is a local dinner club, but both matter to Silicon Valley investors who want industry intelligence, policy engagement and structured professional development.
TiE Silicon Valley connects entrepreneurs, investors and mentors through programs, events and a global chapter network. Its strength is founder-investor access and cross-border reach. It suits venture investors who want early exposure to entrepreneurs and a broader leadership community, including international founders.
Band of Angels is an established Silicon Valley angel organization whose members include experienced technology executives and founders. It is not a CVC network and does not replicate an institutional VC association. Its value is early-stage deal exposure, diligence collaboration and relationships with operators who invest personally.
SVCE is a nonprofit startup community supported by venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, advisers and experts. Its educational programs and funding community are best suited to investors who enjoy working close to early-stage founders and ecosystem development.
Traditional VCs should prioritize founder access, co-investor trust, LP relationships where relevant and differentiated deal flow. Corporate venture leaders should add strategic partners, innovation teams, business-unit sponsors and technology executives to that list. “For venture investors, a network becomes valuable when it turns introductions into shared judgment.” The best Silicon Valley venture community is the one aligned with the investor’s actual mandate.
