Stealth model Ox Alpha is released on OpenRouter. It performs very well, beating Fable and Sol on many benchmarks, and has multimodal capabilities and a 1M context window. It is widely expected to be a stealth release of the next GLM model from Z.ai. For the next week, it’s free with very high rate limits.
YMTC is planning to IPO soon. Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp., based in Wuhan, is China’s largest manufacturer of NAND flash memory and its second-largest manufacturer of memory in general. It’s targeting a valuation of roughly $41-49B.
Starcloud raises $250M at a $2.3B valuation. Starcloud, founded in 2024, is working on space-based data centers in collaboration with Crusoe and Nvidia. It is the first startup to demonstrate AI training and inference in orbit.
Anthropic hires chip expert Amir Salek. From 2013 to 2022, Salek was a senior director of engineering at Google, where he created the TPU organization and led its first seven generations. Anthropic is currently working on an inference chip.
DeepSeek releases DeepSeek-V4-Flash-Vision-Exp, a multimodal version of DeepSeek-V4-Flash with vision capabilities. It outperforms DeepSeek-V4-Flash-0731 on most benchmarks and is broadly competitive with Claude Opus 4.8.
OpenAI cuts prices for GPT-5.6 Sol. For the next three months, it will cost $4/$20 per million input/output tokens, a discount from its previous price of $5/$30.
SpaceXAI increases the availability of Grok Bot to SuperGrok Plus, Cursor Pro+, and Cursor Teams users, plus a free trial with limited usage to all other users. Grok Bot is SpaceXAI’s early prototype of a “drop-in remote worker”.
TikTok agrees to a $400 million settlement with the US Department of Justice over allegations that it violated children’s online privacy, amid mounting backlash against Big Tech companies over children’s online safety concerns.
