We are living in a time of accessible board rooms, luxury hotel rooms, wine tours and disabled people collecting cans to eat, living in tents on the street and dying in desperation via MAID/assisted suicide/euthanasia provided by the state.
Our society hates vulnerability, which it mostly equates with weakness. Weakness is something to eradicate from oneself or at the very least hide and disguise while exploiting it in others. It's all rooted in ableism and in particular modern western ableism, which is a creation of white supremacy and capitalism.
I am concerned about the learned helplessness of the medical profession. They will tell me - after glancing side to side and behind - in a hushed voice to "Keep up the fight!" Such words are always followed by, "But I will deny this if you quote me."
We are far more likely to pick up a placard than clutch pearls. We are far more likely to fundraise for coveted cool compression stocking than to own pearls to clutch. If you understand we are not as they present then you should also start to entertain the possibility that they are not as they present themselves to be either.
