With a new book coming out, several interviewers have asked whether or not the central character is ‘likeable’. I tell them that I think she’s tremendous. And, yes, ‘likeable’. But should she have to be? Do we expect the same from our male protagonists? Or is this pressure to be ‘nice’ part of the problem women face, personally and professionally?
