The wallpaper was golden surveillance cameras peeking out of golden trees. Good choice for a treasure vault, if a bit heavy-handed for my taste. There were no actual camers to match the wallpaper, though the thick cerulean green carpet complimented the wallpaper background. Someone on the interior design team had a careful eye for detail.
Three matching, glossy black doors waited at the far end of the room. I studied them for a while before spotting the difference on each golden knob handle. The far left door handle was engraved with a bee hive. The engraving on the middle handle was a goat’s head skull, with twistier horns than any I’d seen on a live goat. The far right engraving was a delicate little spiked creature with four dainty paws.
Hive, horns, or hedgehog? If I played by the rules, I might have been at a loss for which to choose.
I was halfway to the hedgehog when someone cleared their throat behind me.

Happy New Year! I hope you are having a brilliant start to 2025. Personally I’m still at the stage of writing all dates as 2024 not 2025, which I think falls somewhere between bargaining and acceptance.
My start to 2025 has been peaceful and filled with reading and writing every chance I get! There has been lots of fun baby-planning and 2025-schedule planning too.
