Torah Law and Imputed Righteousness

How many times have you been told that “works” are a dirty word, and that the moment you believed, a magical cloak of “imputed righteousness” covered you so completely that your actions no longer matter to the Father? They tell you that you can eat pork, ignore the Sabbath, stomp all over the Torah, and still float right into eternity on the back of Yeshua’s obedience. Does that hold up to the Law of Non-Contradiction? Not a chance. If scripture repeatedly warns that we will be judged according to our works, yet modern churchianity tells you your works have zero impact on your eternal destiny, then someone is lying to you. I choose to start with the Bible and stay with the Bible.

Let’s look at the Hebraic root of this...

Righteousness is not a passive, mystical state or an emotional high; it is an active, physical verb. The scriptures describe our life as a paved, narrow road called the Derekh (the Way). Walking on this path is your Halaqa (your walk)—your daily, physical, and intentional action of keeping the Sabbath, celebrating the Feasts, and treating your brothers with genuine compassion. King Yeshua didn’t come to abolish the Law; He perfectly embodied and taught it!

When we are grafted into the Commonwealth of Israel, we are commanded to walk even as He walked. To understand how our obedience interacts with His grace, we must examine the visual metaphor of the path and the locked door:

• The Metaphor of the Derekh (The Path): The paved path runs from where you stand today directly to the Kingdom door. To your left and your right are hideous terrors trying to frighten you, and glittering temptations trying to lure you into stepping off the road. This life is not a vacation; it is a specialized wilderness and a testing ground designed to humble us, prove our hearts, and train us to overcome our fleshly lusts.

• Your Personal Righteousness Gets You to the Door: Your Halaqa—your active obedience to the eternal, universal, unchanging Constitution of the Kingdom (the Torah)—is the vehicle that physically carries you down the road. Yeshua holds your hand, and the Spirit guides you, but nobody is going to walk those steps for you. You must walk it out yourself.

• The Blood Canopy and Course Correction: While you are on the path, you are shielded by the protective canopy of Yeshua’s shed blood. If you let your desires pull you off the path into sin (lawlessness), you step out from under that protective covering and find yourself in extreme danger. The only way back is Teshuva (repentance)—physically turning around and returning to the path.

• Imputed Righteousness Gets You Through the Door: When you finally reach the end of the road, you find that the Kingdom door is locked. Even though you walked righteously, you still bear the “stains” of your past transgressions. Your personal righteousness is what got you to the door, but it cannot open it. It is at this final threshold that the fullness of Yeshua’s shed blood is applied, and His perfect righteousness is imputed to you, washing away every stain so you can enter as a pure bride.

The Separation of Salvation and Reward

We must logically untangle what the church has hopelessly conflated: salvation and reward.

1. Salvation is a Free Gift: Yeshua laid down His life as an atoning offering for the whole world. It was paid in full 2,000 years ago; you cannot buy it, and you cannot earn it. Salvation is the “life preserver” thrown to a drowning humanity; reaching out to grab it is simply the active work of faith.

2. The Reward is Determined by Works: While salvation is free, your reward—which is eternal life in the Kingdom—is judged strictly according to your works. As Yeshua made crystal clear in the parable of the sheep and the goats, the “righteous” who inherit the Kingdom are defined entirely by their active, physical obedience and how they treated the brethren.

If you refuse to walk the Derekh, you will never reach the door. And if you never reach the door, there is nothing to impute. We do not keep the Torah to “earn” salvation; we keep the Torah because we love the Father, and we must walk the path of personal righteousness to reach the locked door where His imputed righteousness waits to let us in.
