The Sacred Hill of Light

Arunachala is not merely a mountain—it is Shiva himself in the form of light, a beacon of consciousness that has drawn seekers for millennia. Located in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, this ancient hill is considered one of the most sacred places in India.

Sri Ramana Maharshi was irresistibly drawn to Arunachala at age 16 and never left. He often said that Arunachala is the spiritual heart of the world, and that the mountain itself is a powerful guru, silently radiating grace and awakening those who approach with sincere hearts.

Sri Ramana Maharshi taught:

“Silence is the most potent form of work. However vast and emphatic the scriptures may be, they fail in their effect. The Guru is quiet and peace prevails in all.” *(Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi, Talk 31)*

My own experience with this teaching began when i read the book “Spiritual Teachings of Ramana Maharshi”

Undoubtedly Ramana has inspired and instructed both directly and indirectly many people since his lifetime and beyond. But the ultimate path and realization of the Self (which has many names; call it Brahman, Consciousness, Love, God, etc) is the inescapable Reality we all seek in everything we do knowingly or unknowingly. And uniquely to this set of teachings the emphasis is always on the self-discovery , the direct discovery of This for oneself, through oneself, and by oneself for the benefit of all beings.

Though it may seem a selfish pursuit to inquire into the nature of Reality in this way, it is in fact, as Sri Ramana points out, the greatest service one can render the world.

It is through the great discovery of divine love and divine Atman , or the undercurrent of consciousness that all things find their true wishes in life fulfilled. The mistake would be to think this means one is required to abandon the world when in fact this is not an abandoning but a great inclusion of everything possibly imagined, experienced; and felt through the direct knowledge “I Am”
