Love everyone, and tell the truth
                               after Ram Dass
I know what you’re thinking, and it’s not that
complicated. He didn’t say invite everyone to
your house for tea and spill your secrets. Not
devote all your attention to anyone you meet
and share your opinions. Just love people,
and be honest. Wish them well, you know?
Even those that bug you. Even the ones that
really get to you. Even those that are downright
terrible. Suspend your judgment and love them
anyway. Say a little prayer in your heart for their
well-being. We come in so many different beliefs
and expressions, so many shapes and shades,
so many ideas, and you know what? It doesn’t
matter, and it’s all beautiful. Anyhow, no one
really knows what’s up, or what happens after.
So put down your moral stick, your metal shield.
Love everyone, tell the truth. It’ll cost you nothing.
It’ll lead you to liberation. Try it now, look at the
person closest to you. Love them, say may you be
happy. Tell the truth, show them how your heart
is doing today.

I finished reading There Is No Other a few weeks ago, which inspired a series of poems. Reading or listening to Ram Dass most always soothes and balms my soul. I feel whole again, possible, in love with the world more than I already am. This phrase (love everyone and tell the truth) has stuck with me for some time now. I put it up on an A-Frame during COVID when my now former restaurant, Laziz Kitchen, was open for takeout. I hoped it served some inspiration for folks stopping by.
