Some people may not be able to afford to take leave

Unions and employment law experts say there is a risk that some people may not be able to afford to take leave when new rules take effect. The Employment Leave Act has passed into law and will replace the Holidays Act in 2028. It is designed to make leave rules clearer for employers and employees, and offer more certainty.

Shelter bags help rough sleepers this winter

An Auckland man who has been sleeping rough for months says the gift of a shelter bag was a game-changer this winter, helping him stay warm while waiting for housing. Rotary Clubs across the country have responded to increasing homelessness with a special fundraiser - they've imported a container of a thousand shelter bags for city missions and other charities to give out.
