Come wax with me! Don't worry it's not what you might think ;)
Ok so my “waxing” may not pay proper homage to the teachings of Mr. Miyagi with Daniel-san as my title may imply, but the phrase is deeply ingrained in my psyche. I just dated myself didn’t I?
This isn’t a post about Karate Kid (the original 1984). But I did want to share my behind the scenes waxing video with you. It’s not what you think unless you are thinking about envelope wax seals, lol. Watch the video, you’ll see. It was actually quite fun! As I’ve been prepping for my first Lotus Letters to send out, I wanted to do something special for the envelope because even the outside should be pretty. I find, there is something official, deep, personal, even magical about wax letter seals. And they’re just so cool! I hope you enjoy it! I might have even done a little dance.
If you’ve been on the fence about joining my mail club, I wanted to share a little more from my heart about why I’m creating something that is not necessarily book related.
I’ve been pondering my writing journey. Don’t misunderstand me, I plan to continue writing books! And I also felt pulled to something slightly different, something I can share a more tangibly curated and personal take on the journey I’ve been following. Of course, I can do that here (in my newsletter) and I plan on expanding that more in the future as well, but stay with me here for a moment.
It’s that time of day your mail has just been delivered. A moment of dread hits your nervous system. What bills might there be (that aren’t already digital)? Or perhaps there will be boring junk mail ads you immediately toss in the trash, or perhaps nothing at all.
But what if instead…
A moment of excitement zings through your body, today could be the day a letter arrives just for you! You don’t know what the topic might be (or maybe you do), but you DO know it will be thoughtfully written with you in mind. As you hold the envelope in your hand you look it over, noting the new wax seal, carefully prying it open to remove the contents. Inside you find a beautifully curated art card you could place on your desk or hang on your wall—it reminds you of the moment, in this case to be aware of the doorways you are being called to take note of in your life. There’s also a themed bookmark to hold in your hands, to mark your place in a much loved book you’re currently reading. (Sometimes, a surprise bonus will be included.) You take a moment and pause, making space in your day for yourself to enjoy a moment of wonder.
That’s what I want this experience to be for you. Moments of small tangible joy and pieces of tangible wonder. These moments matter in our lives, whether it’s through a simple mail club or not. When I take the time to notice small wonders in my life, I’m reminded of the bigger wonders in my life and it always seems to find a way to bring me back to myself. To home. To God within me.
