Good Morning.

LayerZero is quietly repositioning itself as market infrastructure rather than messaging plumbing, wagering that ZRO’s value now hinges less on cross-chain volume and more on whether trading venues are willing to hand a third party their matching, clearing, and settlement stack, a bet complicated by the fact that some of its biggest users just moved their bridge business to Chainlink.

WHAT MATTERS

State of play: LayerZero is pushing beyond cross-chain interoperability into exchange infrastructure with ATLAS, a headless system built on its Zero blockchain that routes trading fees into ZRO buybacks and sent the token up more than 16% in 24 hours.

  • ATLAS combines matching, clearing, settlement, and risk management into one backend that exchanges and institutions can plug into instead of building it themselves.

  • The system supports both open markets like prediction platforms and institutional markets with custom access rules.

  • ZRO secures Zero through proof-of-stake, functions as gas, and higher staking tiers unlock larger fee rebates for trading venues.

  • After venue rebates, 75% of remaining fees are used to buy and burn ZRO, with 25% going to market creators.

  • The launch follows several firms shifting cross-chain activity to Chainlink after an April exploit drained $292M from a LayerZero-enabled bridge.

Why it matters: LayerZero is betting its future on becoming settlement infrastructure for all asset classes, not just cross-chain messaging.

Our take: The buyback mechanism only works if ATLAS actually captures volume, and headless exchanges live or die on whether trading venues trust a third party with matching and settlement.

For builders and investors: Trading venues evaluating backend infrastructure should watch ATLAS’s launch and early liquidity before committing, especially given LayerZero’s recent bridge security scrutiny.

Update on this morning's PT-reUSD markets on Morpho. No lenders in Steakhouse vaults are affected and no bad debt is incurred. The underlying reUSD asset is unaffected. At around 04:30 UTC, price action around the PT-reUSD (10 Dec maturity) asset caused a number of large and

A single wallet’s large trade in Pendle’s YT-reUSD market pushed the paired PT-reUSD token down about 3%, enough to trigger $36.4M in liquidations on Morpho as leveraged looping positions with razor-thin margins got wiped out.

  • Pendle splits interest-paying assets into yield and principal tokens whose prices move inversely since they must sum to the underlying asset’s value.

  • One wallet bought heavily into YT-reUSD, pushing implied yield to 20%, then exited the position shortly after.

  • Borrowers who looped PT-reUSD as collateral to borrow USDC and buy more PT-reUSD had left less than 3% of liquidation headroom.

  • Morpho’s oracle used the lower of a 15-minute price average or a fixed maturity schedule, and the market price triggered the liquidations.

  • Steakhouse Financial confirmed no bad debt was created and its vault lenders were unaffected, though it briefly pulled liquidity as a precaution.

INSIGHTS

State of play: Bitcoin gained $14,264 in a week to close at $77,387, a 22.7% surge fueled by the US Treasury’s expanded buyback program that pushed the Fear & Greed Index to its highest level since December 2024.

  • Spot bitcoin ETFs saw $1.92B in net inflows for the week ended Aug 21, the largest since October 2025’s cycle peak.

  • Strive CEO Matt Cole said bitcoin’s breakout against both the dollar and gold signals the strongest cycle ever, with the bitcoin-to-gold ratio hitting its highest level since May.

  • Zeus Research’s Dominick John expects the rally to continue short term, with the CLARITY Act’s September progress as a potential catalyst.

  • BTC Markets’ Rachael Lucas cautioned that spot-driven gains are more durable than leverage-driven ones, and urged watching funding rates and open interest for signs of an overheated market.

  • Analysts see $80,000 as the near-term target, with $85,000 to $90,000 possible if the breakout holds and ETF inflows stay strong.

FEATURES & GOVERNANCE UPDATE

Arcus has launched pTokens on Robinhood Chain, converting managed perpetual accounts into transferable ERC-20s that give traders leveraged ETF-style exposure without directly managing collateral or margin.

  • The lineup includes crypto exposure like pBTC and pBTC3x, plus leveraged stock tokens such as pHOOD3x for 3x long RHOOD exposure.

  • CEO Eddie Zhang framed pTokens as bringing traditional leveraged ETF strategies natively onchain.

  • Robinhood Chain, an Arbitrum-based Layer 2 that went live in July, has since generated over $600M in TVL and $26B in cumulative DEX volume.

  • Arcus has processed more than $2B in trading volume with over 85,000 users on its perpetuals waitlist.

Other notable feature updates:

  • Coinbase launches tokenized stocks on Base.

  • Concrete launched concUSD in partnership with M0.
