HEADLINE
State of play: Trump’s expected attendance at a meeting explicitly designed to kick off the CFTC’s jurisdictional fight over prediction markets signals the administration is prepared to use executive access.
Trump and CFTC Chair Mike Selig are expected at Wednesday’s White House meeting with crypto and prediction market executives.
The session precedes Thursday’s inaugural CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee meeting, covering crypto regulation, AI, and prediction markets.
Invitees reportedly include Coinbase, a16z, Ripple, Chainlink, Kalshi, and Paradigm, alongside Polymarket’s Shayne Coplan and Kalshi’s Tarek Mansour as committee members.
Baltimore sued Kalshi and Polymarket over sports contracts this week, while a Washington state court ordered Kalshi to halt most offerings there.
The Clarity Act remains stalled, with a cloture vote set for September 15 requiring 60 Senate votes to advance.
What’s Next: The Innovation Advisory Committee convenes Thursday to formally take up federal-state jurisdiction, with the Senate cloture vote on Clarity still set for September 15.
Why it Matters: The optics of a presidential meeting timed to a jurisdictional committee kickoff suggest the administration wants to shape the CFTC-versus-states fight before Congress moves.
Our Take: Trump’s prior statements backing exclusive CFTC jurisdiction, combined with his son’s financial ties to both platforms, make this look less like neutral policy convening and more like a stacked deck ahead of Thursday’s session.

CASE STUDY
State of play: Trump Media’s paid early-access feed now under legal challenge as unconstitutional, is simultaneously being pitched to prediction markets as tradeable data, raising the question of whether the president’s own posts are becoming a monetized information edge for high-frequency traders.
The Intercept and Freedom of the Press Foundation sued Trump and White House officials, alleging Truth API’s paid preferential access violates constitutional protections.
Truth API launched August 1 and has signed over 10 customers, mostly high-frequency trading firms, paying $60,000 to $100,000 per month.
Trump Media is evaluating licensing Truth Social data to prediction market operators as a new revenue stream, interim CEO Kevin McGurn said.
Trump Media abandoned its own prediction market platform with Crypto.com, instead pursuing a marketing partnership to promote Crypto.com‘s products.
The company reported $360.6M in unrealized losses on digital assets in the first half of 2026, with holdings valued at $597.7M as of June 30.
Our Take: A sitting president’s social media posts becoming a paid, speed-tiered data product for trading firms blurs the line between official government communication and monetized market information.
