Marie Jaster · More Than Beige

A new edition of 7 Days, 7 Ways has just landed in your inbox. Every Sunday, I share seven outfits from my week – the combinations that survived real life, changing weather forecasts, long walks, coffee spills, and last-minute plans. Consider it a weekly wardrobe diary: part outfit inspiration, part personal experiment.

I said it last week already: the summer slump has arrived. And when daycare closes for staff training, it somehow feels even more ... slumpy. So join me for a week of weather mood swings and the never-ending shuffle between caregiving and actual work. Just your average week as a self-employed mum.

If you've ever stood in front of your wardrobe thinking I have nothing to wear, this newsletter is for you. And if you upgrade to paid, you'll get twice-weekly editions that genuinely change the way you get dressed.

Monday was a daycare day off thanks to staff training. Somehow, though, I still managed to get a ton of work done thanks to some very solid tag-teaming with my boyfriend. Lately, we've become a really good team regarding self-employment and childcare. We also make a conscious effort to carve out little moments together throughout the day that go beyond the standard breakfast and dinner routine.

Going to the super market and building high towers – Things you do with your child when it’s raining

For a day split between my desk and the playground, I reached for my current favourite thing to wear: a simple long-sleeve tee. It's unbelievably soft, and while I initially resisted spending that much on such a basic piece, I'm already convinced it was worth every penny because the quality is just that good. The trousers are my beloved Arket wool-blend balloon pants (don't worry, they're lightweight enough for summer), and the shoes are a Vinted find from Soeur. I genuinely wish I owned these buttery-soft ballet flats in every colour. They feel like walking barefoot.

Tuesday was another daycare-free day, but this time we had a plan: we spent half the day at a children’s museum with one of my son’s little friends. Which meant I had exactly one dressing goal: comfort.

I’d been eyeing these Weekday balloon trousers for ages and, after yet another outfit post by Carin Falk, finally admitted defeat. There was no getting around them anymore.

I still want to recreate her styling with a vintage band tee. The only thing missing is the perfect band tee. Pair it with my red leather flip-flops? I have a feeling that’s going to be a very good outfit. Until then, I decided to experiment with grey and brown instead – two colours I rarely wear together. In fact, I had a pretty strong aversion to grey for years, but lately I’ve been slowly warming up to it, one outfit at a time.

Will these trousers make it into my suitcase for our holiday with my in-laws? Absolutely. Do I also want them now in Black and White? Absolutely.

And when something works, why not wear the same trousers again? This time, styled more like Carin Falk – with black ballet flats.

Wednesday, daycare was finally back. But it was my turn to cook for the kids (yes, the parents cook for our daycare, and I absolutely love it. Truly the best daycare in Berlin. Don’t argue with me.) So once again, I needed an outfit that was comfortable, practical, and forgiving when it came to the inevitable splashes and stains.

Coffee for the teachers and for me, then I made braised cucumbers with a mustard and dill sauce, served with potatoes. Peak German comfort food. Do you know this dish, or is it a very German thing?

The red windbreaker is a vintage find from Doppelreiher that I picked up for €40. Underneath, I kept things very simple with a black long-sleeve tee. Did I feel a little bit like I was wearing pyjamas? Yes. But, like... Margot Robbie in Australia wearing pyjamas.

In the evening, I headed to an annual summer dinner hosted by one of my clients and her team. (Fun fact: alongside writing, I also work as a freelance creative consultant on digital strategy, influencer campaigns, affiliate marketing, and social media.)

I wore a white silk blouse with an Asian-inspired silhouette that I found in a vintage shop in Milan, paired with simple black tailored trousers and my white pumps (amazing Vinted find). The restaurant’s interior? Absolutely dreamy.

Half the week is free. Half the week requires a subscription. From here on, you’ll find Thursday through Sunday, complete outfit credits, links, styling notes, and all the little wardrobe details that make 7 Days 7 Ways so much fun.
