My name is John Morehouse. This is a blog about economics (mostly housing and environmental) and whatever else I find interesting. Here is a bit about me:
I live in Washington DC and am married.
I am currently working on a startup that is making it easier for homeowners to make resilient home upgrades. More on this soon.
I ride road bikes and have raced as an amateur on and off for many years.
I was born and raised in Petaluma, CA.
I received a PhD in economics from the University of Oregon in 2022. My focus was on urban (housing) and environmental economics. You can see my papers on google scholar.
I worked at a large financial institution for a few years after grad school. I was on the climate risk team studying their exposure to climate risk.
I started this blog because I want to improve my writing. I am concerned that with the rapid rise of LLMs like ChatGPT I am becoming a rusty writer. As such, I will minimize AI use throughout my posts. I may use them on occasion for grammar and spell-checking but the content and writing otherwise will be from me.
I also want to use to use this blog to think harder about things I find interesting. It would be a privilege for me if what I wrote resulted in you engaging with these topics as well.
