How We Made Tibby

Tibby is based on my own experiences with my cat.

Cats are lovable little mysteries, but after enough years together, the mystery develops a schedule.

The same cat who behaves like nobody has ever fed him will ignore the expensive food and demand whatever is on my plate. He will disappear when called, then appear the second a warm chair becomes available. He can spend hours pretending I do not exist, then follow me into the bathroom because apparently privacy is where he draws the line.

Completely unpredictable.

Completely predictable.

That became Tibby.

He has lived with Marisol for nine hundred years, so she knows exactly what he will do. She also has absolutely no idea what he will do.

He loves her. He rarely says it. Though he does say it in every book.

He understands almost everything. He explains almost nothing.

He will ignore an urgent magical crisis, walk away, and return at the exact moment Marisol has given up on him.

Usually with one sentence that makes everything worse.

That relationship came easily because I already knew it.

Tibby is every cat who acts like affection was never part of the agreement, then quietly sits beside someone during the hardest part of the day.

He is strange, loyal, inconvenient, dry, and deeply lovable.

Basically, he is a cat.

And he’s our Tibby. ❤️😅

And yes, he’s getting his own calendar which will be shipped to our Kickstarter backers this September.
