I’ve been getting a lot of emails lately about the next Moon Over Marisol Kickstarter, so I figured I’d answer a few things in one place.
Five brand new Moon Over Marisol assignments.
Roughly 95,000-100,000 words. (We’re still in the final edits 😅)
There are pumpkins, witches, vampires, terrifying spiders, some strange dinner guests, Tibby being Tibby, and somehow a three-part quest involving a Jersey tomato.
The Confident Cucurbit
The Quest For The Nice, Ripe Jersey Tomato
The Continued Quest For The Nice, Ripe Jersey Tomato
The Somehow Still Continuing Quest For The Nice, Ripe Jersey Tomato
The Scorpion, the Frog, And The Fairly Odd But Pleasant Dinner Part
The Jersey tomato required a trilogy. I’m a New Jersey boy, after all. 🍅
I wanted this Kickstarter simpler than the last one.
$10 gets the complete Spooky Assignments ebook.
$25 gets that plus all eighteen original Moon Over Marisol books. Twenty-three books total through BookFunnel.
$30 gets the paperback mailed to your door plus the digital books.
Then there are some bigger Marisol rewards, including the Tibby calendar, collector packages, and a limited custom assignment tier.
Kickstarter just works. And it works just tremendously well.
It funds the making of Marisol in ways I never thought possible, and it has helped me more as an indie author and publisher than anything else.
Moon Over Marisol is about as indie publishing as it gets. There is no big company behind it.
It’s me, the books, Soldi Duck Press (mostly me 😅), and the readers who have slowly gathered around this strange little witch and her cat.
The May Kickstarter raised $3,110, which was enormous for this little operation.
It also taught me a lot.
Fulfillment gets complicated fast. Printing costs money. Shipping costs money. Every extra physical reward creates another moving part.
So this campaign was built differently.
One main book.
Cleaner rewards.
More digital delivery.
Physical editions that are much easier to predict and fulfill, thanks to a worked out system now that took some arduous trial and error. 😅
Kickstarter has started making a lot of sense for Marisol because it lets a project prove itself before a bunch of money gets spent producing it.
Direct sales work the same way.
It’s also tremendously successful compared to all the years prior. Indie Publishing is pretty ruthless when your under the thumbs of the algos.
Every Kickstarter pledge and every direct sale stays close to the books and helps keep the next thing moving.
That matters tremendously while this little press is still growing.
And I kind of love that the readers are becoming part of how these books get made.
The deluxe editions happened because readers wanted them.
The Eternal Registry happened because readers wanted to become part of the books.
Now the spooky collection gets its turn.
September 1, we launch this thing. It’s early for Spooky Season. But not really. It takes time to ship these books to your door step. Just in time for October.
The book feels good. The campaign feels much cleaner. And I’m excited to see what happens when Marisol gets a little spooky. 👻
