Threshold Practices: Catching the Future

Dear ones,

Whether the events unfolding are global, localized, or inside us, many of us have begun to perceive with a new acuteness and clarity what we have theoretically known for a while—the stakes are high. The concerted attacks by life-denying forces have never been more visible in their rapacity—for those of us seeking to create alternatives to the colonizing forces and colonizers’ values, the training wheels are off. Many of us can no longer brush aside this blazing ask that participating in living is making upon us. And yes, to parts of our psyche, the ask feels hard. There are parts of us that are not ready. Rather I will say they are not yet ready. Really, the soul is timeless and holds an indestructible knowing that these parts of us, too, will be ready—in an other time.1 I have faith in this.

Thus, even to what is not yet ready, my invitation is to continue to gather seeds towards the needs of the future—for the future is bringing change with her. This is how we may “still” assert balance in these unsteady times and outlast what is unbalanced.2

Another trick/tip is to refuse to let the deterministic, colonial outlook of modernity constrict our imagination of our roles. When we let our ancient sensing speak to us and croon its shrewd knowing, the materials we need—so as to make and become bridges, ancestors to the future—emerge.

On February 26, I will be on the interactive presentation and panel, “Resisting the War Against the Imagination: Countering Ai through earth-based Natural Intelligence (Ni),” with Pooja Prema, Tiokasin Ghosthorse, and Ukumbwa Sauti at the Re-imagining Education Conference:

“This interactive presentation and panel discussion interrogates the underlying histories, assumptions and intents of the rollout of current Artificial Intelligence systems, and the capture of inner and outer resources- ecological, social/spiritual, and political/economic. We'll examine deeper questions of global vs local power and appropriation, and shared (or coerced) agreements around time & space, and the social contract. Together, we'll ask what fugitive forces already exist to counter, subvert and challenge the ongoing assault against collective and non-linear modes of knowledge, creation and labor; and explore ways we can begin to reclaim and protect our imaginal and Earth commons.”

On May 3, I will present “Divinity and Life in Nondual Consciousness: Revisioning Our Relations With More-than-Human Worlds” on the Dethroning Human Hubris panel at the 2026 online symposium of the Association for the Study of Women and Mythology.

On the evening of May 23, I will be performing a “Moving-Talking” neo-Benshi piece on the theme of the artistic process during an event curated by Dana Teen Lomax, held at Studio Channel Islands in Camarillo, CA.

Having had a chance to intimately observe and participate in an institutional context over the last few years, I respect small and big efforts made to disrupt and creatively rewrite the institutional story the status quo seeks to arrange and entrench. Most institutions—undergirded as they are by the colonial imaginary—will seek to cannibalize upon your spirit. Only you will know whether the response you are making is radiating out of a need to hoard power/prove yourself/garner safety spelled by the dominant order, or out of a subtle connection continually reclaiming its living way into the heart of the wild mother. Don’t let an illusion of failure/loss capture the narrative, and don’t let it frighten you. Each project of recovery must and will lead to a renewal, clarification, and deepening of medicine.
