A treasury of book dedications, part III

You never know what you’re going to find in that wild terrain between a book’s title page and its table of contents. Sometimes you find nothing. Sometimes you find an affectionate (if unsurprising) dedication to a spouse, a parent, a child. Sometimes it is the place where you first encounter evidence of an author’s hypertrophied funny bone or gonzo sentimentality or abnormal soul or—

Of course we would never discredit an author who uses a book’s dedication page for its officially sincere purpose. Or anyone who skips it entirely. Or anyone who finds the overlap of Dedication Page and Acknowledgments Section to be inefficient and even troubling…

But what a happiness it is to discover the rare aberration!

And then to hoard a bunch of them in one big stash!
