The Kyle Tucker signing has been a disaster

This was supposed to as a piece about how the top 15 free agent 2025-2026 signings have worked out so far this year, but Kyle Tucker’s performance lately has been so singularly bad that we need a new word for it. Or an exorcism before we can move on to the rest of the guys from his class.

When Tucker signed a 4-year/$240 million contract back in January, he snagged the highest average annual deal of any player in MLB history ($60M, topping Juan Soto’s $51 million yearly rate).

The rest of the baseball universe was big mad that the back-to-back defending World Series champion Dodgers added the top free agent player on the market. I was, uh, less than bullish about Tucker on a long-term deal. Here’s what I wrote at the time:
