autumn tones

Last autumn, to me, was quite uncharacteristic. The excessive rain over the summer and into the beginning of autumn meant that a lot of the leaves were rained down and turned to brown mush. I personally felt we didn’t get the show of colour we’re used to, bright yellows, deep reds, vibrant oranges and luscious greens.

This explains my colour palette on reflection of last year’s autumn season. It was stormy, humid and wet. Pretty gloomy, but also quite cosy.

In creating these works, I recalled feelings of power, stability and determination: feelings which were burgeoning in the autumn of last year.

At that point in time, I began a journey. I made a lot of changes to my personal lifestyle. I had a strong focus on becoming healthier and fitter: and now, upon recalling and repeating these feelings in a meditative space, these feelings and reflections are only enhanced.

By meditating and engaging with my personal development as well as immersing myself in the natural world around me, the marks made with brushes, pens, and pencils reflect my state of mind then and now, as well as my perception of landscape.

Although the colour palette I recorded for last autumn is quite muted, I do not feel as though the feelings one can evoke from it are as subtle.

In this autumn.23 set, I aim to explore the duality of determination: the power and motivation one can experience but also how the calm and content feeling as a result of determination evolves alongside progress, and of course, seasonal change.
