A few days ago, I asked my son what he thought of Elon Musk having so many children via IVF. A couple disclosures/caveats before I go on.
First and foremost, I'm pro-IVF and I don't believe it's only for the infertile. This is not an anti-IVF piece. Period.
Second, my son is 17 and on the spectrum, so when I asked him this, it was specifically in regards to the theory that Musk is also ASD and, supposedly, has issues with intimacy. My son was quick to shrug off that as explanation for Musk’s choice to use IVF to conceive, by some accounts, 13 of his now 14 offspring. (If you didn’t already know, number 14 was announced yesterday.)
"It's not autism; it's eugenics,” my son said.
I did a little digging and, as usual, I think he’s right.
The sordid history of eugenics is fundamentally tied to Nazi ideals, and every day it gets a little harder to deny that Musk has chosen to walk that road. You can ignore the salute...if you REALLY want to. You can (somehow) excuse his massive financial support of the AfD party in Germany. You can discount the fact he follows dozens of known Neo-Nazi groups on his own X platform. All of this can be dismissed as quirks, the flippant distractions of a bored, sad man.
But bringing children in the world via a process he calls "extreme breeding" (a phrase that should raise a few eyebrows)? That’s not a quirk. That’s not a whim.
You've no doubt heard him claim to be doing his part to repopulate the earth, that population decline is one of the greatest challenges our world faces. We’ve heard this kind of talk before.
The argument could very well be made that our planet is overpopulated to the point of environmental catastrophe. From a capitalism standpoint, however, population growth is essential. The Nazis knew this and, as a result, had strict policies for growing the population while maintaining a practice of "racial hygiene". It was Hitler who said, “He who is physically and mentally not healthy and worthy, may not perpetuate his suffering in the body of his child.”
Elon Musk not only believes himself to be physically and mentally healthy and worthy, he positions himself as a sort of paragon of intellectual superiority. He’s also quite fond of his appearance, for which he’s sought gender affirming care in the form of hair plugs, testosterone supplementation, and jawline reconstruction surgery.
Interestingly, the rise in eugenics in the tech world is well-documented, and every single one of those documentations mentions Elon Musk as the fountainhead of the movement. What's truly baffling about this, on a purely psychological level, is that Musk still somehow manages to use his progeny output as a testament to his virility and masculinity. What a confusing place the inside of his brain must be.
Anyway, I'm attaching an article below - a sort of brief history of eugenics - so you can draw your own conclusions about what motivates Elon. Is it simply the whims of a man with too much money and no moral compass? Or is it part of something far more sinister. It’s a good, quick Saturday afternoon read with your tea, if studying the driving dynamics of burgeoning Nazis is your thing.
