So I’m back in the Windy City, though today was particularly still and temperate, and it has already been an adventure.
After telling me they were going to Iceland, my Chicago brother and his wife are in Lithuania visiting my Lithuania brother (their itinerary got moved around because the kitchen construction they’d expected to last all summer ended early)—so my Texas brother who rarely plans in advance is staying in their house while I (who booked ahead) got a nonrefundable hotel room in the Loop.
The hotel was initially a disaster - with a sagging bed, no microwave, no tea possible (tiny espresso machine), a view of the wall, and an all around depressing vibe. I took some good advice and made a call to the front desk and was immediately whisked to another room:
