Are you kicking off 2025 by meeting with your teams to align on business goals? Motivating your teams is essential year-round. The start of the year is a great time to review 2024 and get everyone focused on 2025. Your agenda should include the overall business initiatives and the approved technology projects to support the goals.

Remember to recognize your teams for their efforts in 2024. Use metrics to demonstrate their accomplishments like features completed, burndown, urgent troubleshooting, and innovations. Our tech teams are accustomed to hearing “What’s next?” but don’t always hear “nice job.”

After your 2024 review, focus on the future. Clearly articulate how the upcoming projects align with the business goals. Your teams appreciate it and perform better when comprehending why the prioritized projects contribute to the business growth.

This is also an opportunity for collaboration! Invite a business leader like the COO, Head of Sales, or CFO to talk to your teams about 2025 and how their contributions will lead to the company’s success. In addition, ask a couple of your teammates (managers or individual contributors) to talk about the 2025 project work and why it’s exciting.
