Last episode, it was “honestly”; this episode, it’s “I think”. Girl, okay, you stopped telling everyone you’re honest, now you’re trying to convince them that you “think”. You have thought, they get it, babe, relax.

Episode 2 of the Culture Confessional podcast continues to explore niche subjects that have been inexplicably reverberating through the modern-day dialogue. In other words, we’re yapping about spirituality this time. After the 10th Etsy witch rec, aura cleanse TikTok and a promo for a discounted tarot card reading, it was inevitable.

Spirituality has penetrated the Western world in a weird, commercialised way. Asya and Anastasia come from the developing world, where spirituality has been practised and passed through generations, never to be a part of a capitalist machine. It simply existed and will continue to exist - in everything, from art and fashion to daily conversations. We wanted to explore the beautiful nature of the spiritual and show anyone who’s listening that you don’t need to sacrifice twenty goats and spend your whole life astral-projecting to connect to the spiritual; you just need to, well, feel the vibes.

About Culture Confessional:

The chaos of contemporary culture jumps between deeply spiritual and comically ridiculous like a deranged tree frog. We are simultaneously anxiously attached to the digital and completely overwhelmed by the material.

Culture Confessional is born out of discussion, dissatisfaction, contemplation and sometimes, sheer fucking confusion. Read: midnight DM rants fests. We needed a space to process, and here we are.

As usual, this episode metamorphs slightly into a feminist, anti-capitalism manifesto, but are we surprised? We started with the simple question: What is modern spirituality? And why is the witch in fashion? We ended with a magical realisation - anyone can be spiritual, if they are open to connecting with energies and understanding them, instead of taking advantage of them, denying them or trying to destroy them.
