David Pitts · The Unified Theory of Mister Pitts

Man-o-man, fifteen years old. 1976 was an exciting year for me.

I am going to go a little more in-depth about why I thought I could and should live to see the Tricentennial in upcoming episodes.

I am happy to be back at my drawing table. I’ve been going through some health problems in recent months, and I didn’t have much energy to work on my comics at all. Whenever I found myself with free time, I generally chose to rest.

I’m feeling better now, and I have a lot more energy, although I do still enjoy a nice nap. But I am also enjoying setting pen to paper again. I was feeling pretty rusty, so as a warm-up, I did a little four-panel strip:

My approach to this was to keep it loose, not too fussy. I sketched it first in blue pencil, then inked directly over the roughs.

My usual method lately is to lightbox my roughs in blue pencil, then ink over that.

This makes for a little bit tighter page. I prefer it. But I was interested in getting something on paper, just to get moving again, so I kept it loose and sketchy on the little four-panel.

I’m in motion again though, so look for more regular updates!
