It’s been a while since we’ve updated Misadventure Adventure. That’s for a whole slew of reasons but mainly incredibly busy life stuff, work stuff and creative stuff. It’s made it really tricky being timely with this project. But DON’T WORRY! Michelle and I are still committed to Misadventure Adventure and to prove it, look at this big old drawing I did of the first arc of the story:
We started Misadventure Adventure as a total lark, thinking it would be a fun respite for our larger projects but Tim, Matilda and Eric quickly became a huge part of our lives and now I love them too much. It’s a major project now and we want to see where it goes, I have an idea of where it will go but the nature of the project is such that I guess I won’t know until we get there.
In actuality, the thing that has slowed us down the most is the current arc of the story. As it was envisioned as being a much more extensively interactive part of the story. Basically, rather than having the voting mechanism for this arc for the murder mystery arc started in Chapter 21 we moved to have a few chapters where you play almost a web-based point and click with a touch of Ace Attorney too. This was done in a rudimentary fashion with hyperlinks and password locked pages in that chapter but for the subsequent ones I really wanted to make it more game-like with dialogue choices and more. I vastly underestimated how long this would take and here we are a year later BUT it’s so good and fun and funny and nearly finished that I think it was worth it.
We’re planning for the new chapters to start coming out in March. I’d really love to know if anyone is still excited for them!
A couple of projects that we at Three Pronged Widget have been working on and wanted to share with you all as they might be interesting to people on here are the following:
Subscribe on You Tube - You should do this anyway because in the future there will be exciting things added to this channel.
Back of Bourke is a new mystery/investigation podcast that we’re releasing next week: Siblings Michael and Alice investigate a mystery: a vintage Australian television show called Back of Bourke that many remember, but no one can prove existed.
With only a VHS tape containing the show's opening sequence and fragmented childhood memories, they dive into online forums, cryptic web archives, and testimonies from amnesiac fans.
Join as they search for evidence of their great aunt's involvement with the show, uncover threatening emails, and a spooky conspiracy that seems to reach from the outback town of Bourke.
Stoic Quest is a text adventure I made last year that was actually years in the making. A friend of mine was always talking about stoicism and we joked about a game called stoic quest where you just had to accept things as they come.
Unfortunately, it turns out that that is not actually very fun on its own and so the game sort of became a bit of an all-encompassing philosophy adventure: Perhaps the Internet’s Best Philosophy-based Video Game?
It only takes a few minutes to play a run but there are MANY endings and paths and so I’d love to hear if you enjoyed it.
We’ll be back in March! Check out our other things.
I do have some questions for you:
We don’t make any money from Misadventure Adventure (well, barely any) and so it is something that we struggle with having dedicated time for. We don’t want to paywall the show and are grateful for the donations we do receive but it would be nice to be able to justify its existence a little more.
I suppose I wonder what your thoughts are about this: would people like a shirt with the picture I posted earlier? Does anyone know good platforms for making shirts. We have considered setting up a Three Pronged Widget Patreon, Alice (my podcast cohost) and I have a great idea for a bonus weekly show that we could make. I could have a livestream where I draw Misadventure stuff for you guys and we could in real-time invent new characters etc. I thought that we could make audio drama versions of the chapters for Patrons with sound effects and music etc (my audio production has gotten much better from working on Back of Bourke). I don’t know if this is at all wanted by anyone?
We’d love to hear back from any one with questions or answers to the above. Let me know your thoughts and please check out our things.
