Hello my lovelies,
I’m going to keep this one short and sweet.
Having launched my indie author career while living in the Pacific Northwest, I know this time of year looks different from the two hemispheres so whether you are getting ready to frolic in the snow or head down to the beach for a surf, I want to wish you and your family—by blood or by choice—a peaceful holiday season full of glimmers.
This brings me to my next few thoughts.
There has been a lot of very intense news lately.
A few things which have particularly caught my attention—amongst a sea of things—has been the recent catastrophic flooding in the Pacific Northwest. So, just in case you have loved ones in Washington, Oregon, Canada and even Montana, I wanted to mention it briefly here so you could check in on them and their communities.
Secondly, if you are in Australia and are still reeling from the shocking news of the Bondi Shooting targeting those attending a peaceful celebration called ‘Chanukah by the Sea’, I wanted to share this beautiful video by Vinh Quang Giang I saw which helped me start to stitch back together some of the broken pieces inside my soul.
Thankfully, gun violence on this scale is very rare in NZ and Australia.
My heart forever goes out to the victims of a violent and hate filled shooting such as this. I know it will take us time to heal from these wounds. I was also so very proud to read of the everyday Australians who—when they heard the shots ringing out—rushed to provide aid as well as the many, many people who have rallied around the victims and their families, the police and first responders, and the everyday citizens who were injured trying to help others as well.
That kind of heroism and community tenderness fills me with hope, even as I weep for all that was lost.
The final issue which has been hurting my heart has been the rash of anti-trans legislation across the world, particularly targeting youth affirming care. It hurts my heart to see our trans youth—and their families, medical professionals and wider community—being put in jeopardy this way.
I know so many communities are hurting—not just our rainbow family, but immigrants, women, Black and Brown communities as well. Be you, be strong, and know that the world—our world— is infinitely more beautiful because you are in it. I am thankful that we are sharing this one beautiful life together.
With love,
M.S. xox
My talented author friends and I have teamed up to offer our subscribers a tasty morsel every month. I am so thrilled to be able to share my dear friend— Shelly Ferguson’s book with you this month. A few things you should know:
I’ll keep this giveaway open until my next signing — MEET ME IN THE MOUNTAINS in February — so you’ll have plenty of time to space out your posts.
